 Religious Tour by the South Asian Cultural Heritage (Southeastern Trains, UK) Team at DBC UK Temple

On 22nd July 2025, a group consisting of 21 staff from Southeastern Trains Department of UK led by Mr Rabindra Kandel (Chairman of the South Asian Cultural Heritage) visited the Diamond Buddhist Centre Temple at 17A Willenhall Road, Woolwich, London.  They were received warmly and welcomed by the Founder President and Patron, Mr Sumal Kumar Gurung and his team at the temple.  The event was pre-scheduled as an educational and religious tour to gain an introductory knowledge about the Lord Buddha and Buddhism.

The Chief priest (Guru) of the temple, Khenrimpoche Naresh Gurung and Senior Lama Guru, Sherjang Gurung chanted the goodwill prayer and extended their blessings to the group.  The group members were also given to light the oil lamps prior to the session of the presentation by Mr Sumal Kumar Gurung.  The hall was quiet and peaceful, and all the attendees listened carefully an hour-long presentation on Lord Buddha and Buddhism.  All were anxious to know about the Buddhism.  At the end of the session there was some questions raised by the participants.

The venerable Guru, Khenrimpoche Naresh Gurung answered, clarified and emphasized the topics in great length in Nepali language which was interpreted thoroughly by the Founder President and Patron, Sumal Kumar Gurung. On completion of the presentation session, having an audience and blessings from the Guru, the group was fed with tasty lunch prepared in the temple by the  mother’s Team Leader Mrs Sara Devi Gurung  and her team, Mrs Rina Gurung, Mrs Tulsi Gurung, Mrs Nilam Gurung, Mrs Rupshubha Gurung, Mrs Minkashi Gurung, Mrs Manmaya Gurung.  Other attendees from the DBC UK were Chief Adviser, Mr Ram Gurung, Founder Treasurer Surja Gurung and Assistant Gumba Manager, Mr Bir Bahadur Gurung.

Sumal Kumar Gurung is a learned scholar who has acquired his Master's Degree in Buddhism from the University of London (SOAS) and he is the Founder President and Patron of Diamond Buddhist Centre UK. He has been involved in many communities as a founder, adviser, and member. He is also a Nepalese literary figure and has written more than half a dozen of books.
